Foreign students in public special needs schools

Japan With Kids - Forums: Education in Japan: Japanese Public/Private School System: Foreign students in public special needs schools
By Kathleen Benton on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 - 12:43 pm:

Greetings, I was wondering if there is anyone
out there who is a native English speaker who
has their child in a Japanese "Yogo Gakko" or
Special Needs school. I am just curious how
your experience has been. Please let me the
area you live in and your child's age too.
Thanks!

We have had a few foreign students in the Yogo Gakko and other Special Needs schools I have worked at in northeastern Tokyo. Is there anything in particular you are curious about? Also, which kind of Yogo Gakko are you referring to, mentally handicapped or physically handicapped? That affects the teacher/student ratio as well as whether there is busing provided by the school.
