Remember all of those wonderful homemade baked goods and crafts which could be found during the Holiday Season? You might just find them all again at the British School bazaar !! By laura dinning on Thursday, May 15, 2003 - 6:53 pm: We are hoping to send our two girls to the BST when we come to live in Tokyo later this year but it's proving very difficult to get a detailed map online of Tokyo suburbs. The Yoyogi - Uehara district looks good, but how long would it take to get to school from there, and to Yachio City, Chiba, where my husband will be working? Which areas do people tend to live in when their kids attend this particular school? Any advice would be most appreciated!

IF you have to take your kids to school every day, then it is important to live not too far away from the school, but if your kids are able to go on their own, then look for a single train connection. A lot of kids travel an hour or longer both ways daily! A popular neighborhood these days seems to be Urayasu right across from Tokyo Disneyland.
If you look under the Travel within Japan section under Trains, a couple of websites are mentioned for use in determining train rides (in English). Once you know the station that your husband has to go to every morning, you can pop in various train stations in with his destination station and and also the station closest to the school, and see if there is a good solution for everyone.
Btw, in Japan it is often true that the employer picks up the tab on the monthly commuting pass.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, at the ages of four and seven I wouldn't be happy sending my kids to school by themselves yet, much as I would prefer to live on the outskirts of Tokyo or in Chiba.
I will follow up your suggestion of checking out the travel in Japan section as this will hopefully give me some idea of commuting distances and stations for my husband.
