Japan With Kids - Forums: Day Care in Japan: Yokohama, Fuchinobe
By Vanessa Dreuillault on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 - 10:04 am:

Hello,

My name is Vanessa. My husband and
myself will be both transfered to Japan in
January 2006. We are both working full
time and we need to find a day care
solution for our 6-months old baby. We
are working in Fuchinobe but maybe plan
to live in Yokohama.
Our preferred option will be to have an
english or french spoken day care but any
idea or suggestions are welcome !
In any case, I would like also some more
generic info on how to get started.
Thanks to everyone for their answers.
Vanessa

We lived in Yokohama last year and used Japanese daycare for our 2 kids. That option may be tough if you do not speak Japanese. Usually Japanese daycare centers are managed by the local ward office. They should have a list and you can contact the centers when you arrive there.

Another option is to seek the advice of YOKE. This is the Yokohama Association for International Communication. They provide advice service for foreigners living in Yokohama. You could probably contact them by e-mail now and get a better idea of what the situation is like.

I don't know of any English daycare centers myself, but they probably exist.
