I am considering a posting in Japan. I've been trying to find out information regarding dependant visa for my step daughter. It looks like there is some conflicting information in this kind of situation. At first, the advise was that some type of consent was required from her biological father. Now I have been told that the only way is for me to adopt my step daughter before dependant visa is issued. Note that I am married and my wife has a daughter from her previous marriage - she will be 16 if we take the posting.

Does anyone have information regarding this ? The ccnsulate in Sydney refered me to the Immigration Bureau direct (which has not answerd my calls !!)
