Hotel Childcare/Babysitting
By Nancy Lydon on Friday, April 2, 2004 - 3:13 pm:I will be travelling to Tokyo next week and will be staying at the Imperial Hotel. I will need babysitting and they can provide me with a babysitter or she can go to their baby room. Has anyone had any experience using their baby room or babysitters?
By Cornelia on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 - 12:05 pm: I don't think the Imperial Hotel has a baby room. The Prince Hotel in Shinagawa has daycare at Dakko room (actually operated by Shogakukan, but on the hotel premises by the movie theaters). It's still kind of a new idea in Tokyo. Japanese culture traditionally doesn't allow for non-family to be taking care of baby, but families that have left grandparents and other kin behind in smaller towns/villages are starting to get around to the use of paid-for babysitters. I imagine that the concierge will call a private babysitting agency in and it will cost a lot. I know it is much easier and quite reasonably priced in Canada (I got a very nice babysitter for my then 4 year old daughter in Victoria, B.C., through the hotel.)
