Parking at Haneda Airport
By Gaijinmom on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 9:09 am: HELP! Has anyone tried long-term parking (4-5 days) at Haneda airport? I have done this at Narita many times and have found it quite convenient, but have never done it at Haneda. Can someone please recommend a parking lot that preferably have staff with some basic English skills? The one I used at Narita (USA Parking) was great because you can reserve on-line in English and they also have pre-written notes in English to help their staff converse with foreigners. I really need this info soon as I will be leaving this weekend (Feb 12th)! THANKS in advance.

From my place, it's much more convenient than using public transportation and certainly cheaper than taxis. Prices change from time to time, so I check the internet each time I travel. We've booked one for 3 days on this weekend and found OK Parking the cheapest at the moment (but I didn't check every single one of the dozens of companies available, so do check for yourself). The thing is that I speak Japanese so I'm not sure about their English skills, but as you may know, the systems are very simple. Just call them up, tell the date, flight number and time of departure and arrival, also the color and brand name of your car as well as your car number. I was also able to book when my flight number wasn't defined yet. Then drive your car to their place, and they'll take you to/from the airport on their mini bus. Or you can drive to/from the airport for extra charge. Here are the contacts for OK Parking. http://www.ok-p.co.jp/ Phone 03-5755-7477 Price for 5 days is 5950 yen. 1500 yen per additional night. 600 yen extra per day for weekends and peak seasons. They have email info@ok-p.co.jp but I'm not sure if they're reading it.

After I read your post, I had a Japanese acquaintance call them up to reserve a space on my behalf. However, when the parking staff found out I did not speak Japanese, they refused to accept my reservation because they had complaints from other non-Japanese speakers who could not understand their rules and regulations! I even asked them to explain their rules to my friend who can then translate for me, but they STILL refused!!! I ended up booking at Sun Parking which was further from Haneda and more expensive, but it was still cheaper than parking at the airport. Oh well, this is just another one of those interesting experiences of being a gaijin here...Thanks anyway for your post.

If memory serves me right, Sun Parking is a long running service (well, at least for a couple of years) that distributes discount coupons to major travel agencies. If you booked your flight through one of those agencies, maybe you can ask them for details, although the discounts may be very little or no different than the prices you get through the internet. Anyway, I hope you have a nice trip. Bon voyage!
By Gaijinmom on Saturday, February 12, 2005 - 7:41 am: Hello again Yuko, I found Sun Parking because there was a pamphlet by them in my travel/ticket package. They did offer me a 30% discount but even with the discount, it was still about 3000 yen more expensive than OK Parking for 5 days. If OK Parking was a bit more flexible and smarter about dealing with foreigners, they could easily prepare, at very little cost to them, a one-page handout to show their gaijin customers their rules and regulations! This is what USA Parking does at Narita -- they have a single English note laminated to show their customers so they don't even have to make extra copies! Thanks again for all your tips.
