Japan With Kids - Forums: Traveling to/from and in Japan: Amusement Park News: Thomas Land
By Julie Wang on Sunday, October 23, 2005 - 1:18 am:

I was planning on taking my kids to Thomasland in October. But the fuji-q website lists opening hours from April 1st to Sept 30. Will the park be closed for the season in Oct.? Also, what is the best way to get the park from Narita airport? Thanks.

By Amanda Jones on Thursday, March 23, 2006 - 5:37 pm:

I recently took my son to Thomas Land and thought I would give an update for other parents whose kids are huge Thomas fans.

Thomas Land is located inside the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park. Most of the rides within the park are for older kids but Thomas Land is perfect for the six and under set. You can purchase entrance into Fuji-Q Highland for 1,200 yen. This only pays for the entrance and does not include the rides. There is a pass for 4,500 yen that includes the large rides but does NOT pay for the rides within Thomas Land. Most of the rides within Thomas Land cost 200 or 300 yen and you buy individual tickets for each ride. If you only want to see Thomas Land skip the expensive pass.

Website in English:

http://fuji-q.com/fuji-q-en/thomasland/index.html

Getting there:

The website lists some transportation options. We took a Keio line bus from Shinjuku station and it was very nice. It took 90 minutes and let us off right at the park. At Shinjuku station go out the West Exit and go up one level. Look for the Keio signs and the bus station should be to your left. You purchase tickets to Fuji-Q Highland at counter number 6. The ticket office opens at 9:00 and the first bus leaves at 9:10. We didn't need reservations but you would probably need them during the busier season.

Eating at Thomas Land:

Food within Thomas Land is reasonable (for an amusement park) but the menus are completely in Japanese and I didn't find any English-speaking staff. Check out the menu on the website beforehand or you might end up with a cold hot dog wrapped in a tortilla and covered in curry that you toddler refuses to eat.

Gift shop:

When you take the main Thomas train ride it lets you off in the gift shop so be prepared. They sell every Thomas product imaginable, including Thomas toilet paper and toilet seat covers. Also, they do not take credit cards anywhere in the park so bring a lot of cash.

Overall impression:

If you have a child who is obsessed with Thomas the way my son is I think it is worth the trip. Thomas Land is fairly small and just the right size for little kids. It has been several weeks since our visit and he is still talking about it.

Hi, I have the same question as Julie - is Thomasland open in the Winter? I want to go tomorrow for my son's birthday. Help!!!

By Tara on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 3:25 pm:

I just called Thomasland to ask-- they said that Thomasland used to be open only until Sept. 30, but "we have eliminated 'winter hours' and updated our homepage"-- so, it is indeed open tomorrow, from 9 AM to 5 PM (the same hours as the main park).

The main park (and therefore Thomasland) seems to be open in the winter from 9 to 5 Mondays to Fridays, 9 to 8 on Saturdays, and 9 to 6 on Sundays. They also seem to be closed one weekday every month.

You can check out their monthly calendar here, as their summer hours are presumably longer:
http://www.fujiq.jp/price/calendar.html
The calendar is in Japanese, but the day they are closed is easy to find, as it is marked in red letters. The other days have the hours posted in blue.
