Japan With Kids - Forums: Shopping in Japan: Foods: Coconuts

Anyone have any idea where coconuts whether green or brown can be bought in Tokyo?

Maybe National Azabu in Hiroo would carry them? They usually have a range of exotic fruits. You can get canned coconut cream or coconut milk at almost all of the international food stores (and Asian food stores).

Good luck! Let us know what you find out. I could go for a nice spring coconut!

Hello, You can definitely get both green and brown coconuts in Okachimachi - in the basement market there.

Thanks a lot Sraboni, BTW do they have water still in them? and how much does it cost?

Dear Sraboni,
I've been to Okachimachi many times. I have never seen a basement food hall there (except maybe at Mitsukoshi which is kind of way up the street from Okachimachi). Can you give me some instructions? There are about 3 or 4 shops that I visit when I go there, but I have never bothered to keep the receipts or make a note of their names or anything, which is kind of embarrassing. I will make a bigger effort next time! And share here.

Hello Cornelia,
Frankly speaking, I haven't been to that place in the last 3-4 yrs. As far as my memory goes, after coming out of the station, I used to walk straight - the street used to be very crowded, with shops on both the sides. There is a big crossing, cross the road and continue going straight and then on the left hand side, you will see some stairs going down. It looks like a fish market. That is where the basement market is.
I remember, first time I asked a shopkeeper - one Japanese lady who was selling all kinds of south East Asian staff to guide me. Hope it helps.
