Has anyone tried ordering prescription eye glasses in the Tokyo area? I have a US prescription and was wondering whether the opticians here will be able to decipher it and make a pair of glasses for me. If anyone has any recommendations for a good but reasonably-priced optician around Tokyo (especially the Shibuya area), please post it. Thanks.

I found a great selection of eyewear and good prices at BIC camera in Yurakucho (inside the old Sogo Department Store just next to Yurakucho station Yamanote Line). I did not get a presecription filled there, but I am reasonably certain that they can do it. I didn't ask, but I think there is an optician there as part of the staff. I would also really like to know if it is possible to show them an prescription written abroad.

Although it is not in the area you requested, I understand the eyeglasses at Costco are very well priced.

I have recently been seeing the following optician for probs with my hard contacts-it has taken me 3 years to find an English speaking optician who deals with hard lens and even more luckily he is located near my home! I think he can help with prescriptions -- if not he can probably recommend someone.

Thanks. Yes - that's where I work. I didn't post the details because I though it might be classed as advertising because I work there. Also the English website is a bit confusing to say the least. I've recently taken on the task of making a new one but it won't be up and running for a few months. Still there are maps on the website so it's worth checking out.
