I thought that was a bit steep. My daughter got her ears pierced on a vacation in Bali for Y300 plus Y700 for the 18kt gold earrings. Even in the USA they would have done it in the store probably for about $15 or $20 with the purchase of a pair of earrings, and because they do it several times a day the store staff usually have more experience than a doctor anyway. It's really not a big part of this culture. I've heard that there are some backstreet body piercing type places, but I don't know where, and I'm not sure that I would feel any more confident about them than I do about a doctor here doing an ear piercing. IF I had to do it now, today, and couldn't wait, I'd try to find a lead via some Brazilians. They've got a network going and probably there is someone who is a "designated piercer" who therefore gets plenty of practice.

The phone number is 3464-8994. I don't know if this helps.
