By Kurz on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - 4:10 pm:I went to register my bone marrow today at the Red Cross center in Ikebukuro (Seibu side exit, on the right side of the pedestrian road leading to Tokyu Hands, 3rd floor). There was a man waving a sign outside but it was in kanji, so I did not know he was for the Red Cross. There was no useful hint on the sign, such as a red cross symbol, for example. I found out because a Japanese friend that was with me until she had to leave for work, told me. It was pretty easy, except no one admitted to speaking any English, and they expected me to know my blood type. Finally they were able to confirm with a phone call to the headquarters, that they could take my small blood sample for testing even if I did not know my blood type. In spite of the delay with the phone call, and the slowness in communication, I was in and out of there in under 30 minutes.
