Water preparation
By Anja Holder on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 5:20 pm: Hallo, Does anybody know if tab water is trinkable in Tokyo? If not, what water preparation equipment/devices can you recommend? We would also like to use it for baby food preparation. Thanks for any help! Anja

BUT- apartment buildings of any vintage have a big storage tank on the roof or somewhere high and these tanks are quite variable in the amount of cleaning they get. There seem to be periodic runs of stories about foul examples. Many years ago, when we first came to Japan and were living in a very normal, not so old apartment, a woman came to the door one day and asked for a sample of water to test. I think she was some kind of local government person. Anyway, I filled her test tube with water from the tap, which we'd been using. She put some drops of chemical in, swished it around and it turned some color. She said, "Better to boil." From then on, we always bought bottled water. FWIW
