I have an Enlish language computer and OS. Would it be very difficult to install and work with an Japanese bought Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier. Or should I go to the special English computer store in Eibisu?. Needles to say I am not very Japanese proficiet but I can get help from the people at my work.

In general all the peripherals are produced for export as well as the internal market. The drivers are all written on a lower level language than the OS. So you can usually make any printer/fax/scanner/copier work with either English or Japanese OS. However, there are a handful of manufacturers out there who do make things difficult (as far as I can tell solely for the purpose of keeping market share?)

Not exactly the same issue as yours, but, for example, it is extremely difficult to change a Sony Vaio Japanese OS on a Vaio sold in Japan over to an English OS.

When in doubt, ask before you purchase (or research on the web). And do not necessarily trust a "yes" from a sales staff. Try to get an answer from a "higher authority". If you are on a Mac OS 10, for example, a huge inventory of drivers is already included in the OS. It can drive almost anything via the USB connection, including most digital cameras (that have a USB cable available), etc.

If you bought a Japanese you have to install an English software driver for Printer, Scanner,Fax,Copier and you can go to their website, the company where you bought the items and you can easily download driver software in English from their website. I hope this could be of help

actually, changing a vaio over is easy. install windows XP pro, add the japanese support at install time, then after the fact tell it about the japanese keyboard.
the weird vaio crud you must have can be downloaded.

XP is quite capable of running in english mode, with japanese applications, so the only problem s are badly written apps that aren't unicode aware.

but make sure you get anti-virus // stay updated.

I find the best anti-virus is not to use IE/outlook/anything that speaks HTML... (well, ok, I use opera for email *occasionally* ^_^;)

Does someone know how to open a .DBX file in outlook express?

I have deleted by mistake one of my folder in outlook express and could not find it in the deleted items folder. I found a .DBX file with the name of my deleted folder containing my emails but was not able to open it by selecting outook express or other programs . How can I recover my emails ?

Hi Anne,

You could download data recovery software like "Restoration" or "PC Inspector File Recovery" , both of which are freeware. However, when you download and install any program to your hard disk drive, you may overwrite the .DBX file that you want to recover. So my recommendation is to try Restoration, running it from a floppy disk. If that doesn't work, then you could try the PC inspector software, but please read the FAQ first!
