Hi,
My family is relocating to Japan in the late summer (husband's job). I am currently a stay-a-home mom in San Francisco, CA with a 2yo girl and baby due in September. I have a very established group of mom friends here and we have playgroup 1x/week and outings usu. one other time per week. I am nervous about being isolated and alone once we
move to Tokyo. I'd love to be contacted to join any/all playgroups.
We hope to move to the Hiroo area. We are interested in meeting people from all over the world. We are very friendly and open people.

Thanks! Stefania Butler dearbutlers[at]mac.com
PS We are truly overwhelmed at the thought of moving so far with 2 small children. We welcome any advice!

By Tamami and Lorenzo Wyatt on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 - 2:14 am:

ICHIKAWA-SHI, CHIBA
(Eastern Tokyo area)

We moved to the area from NYC in October '04. We have a 2.5yr old daughter and 6mos. son.

In NYC, playgroups -- 2 to 3 days weekly -- with nice families and kids enriched the lives of both my daughter and wife. We would like to re-create that magic here in Japan.

We're looking for geographic desirables as transporting two babies to Western Tokyo by car or train can be chotto taihen ne.

We look forward to favorable replies.

Thank you.

By Steve K on Monday, February 7, 2005 - 12:15 pm:

Hi,

We're a bit southwest of you, in Edogawa-ku in Tokyo, but not too far. Our daughter is 3 years 7 months old. How far are you from Ichikawa station or Koiwa station?

By Nami on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 - 4:52 pm:

Hi,

I am looking for mommy-and-
toddler pairs who would be
willing to appear in my article
in a magazine.
It's a new magazine, which will
first come out in July. The name
of the magazine is "Happy Mama
ETokyo-Yokohama edition". It's
a Japanese magazine for moms of
toddlers, containing local
information about everything
mommys want to know.

The article which I will be
writing is a 4 page article
titled "Let's go on a playdate!"
The main concept behind the
article is to promote early
English education to the
Japanese moms, in a positive,
fun way.
What I want to do in the article
is to bring 2 pairs of mommy&
child (one Japanese, one non-
Japanese) together in every
issue, and let the kids play
together, have the moms chat
together, and simply display the
fun of communicating across
different cultures.
In reality, I will be available
to translate to extinguish
language barriers.

If this is something you are
interested in, or if you know
someone who may be interested,
please contact me by e-mail.

Hope to talk to you more soon.

The TUESDAY PLAYGROUP is looking for new members. We are a really active, international and multi-cultural playgroup. It is a great way to discover parts of Tokyo you may not normally find.

We meet every TUesday around 10am.

The location changes every week, as we try to visit interesting places aruond Tokyo.

The kids are aged between 2 and 4. There are about 10 regular members, including Australian, American, British and Japanese moms.

My personal note: this is a great playgroup. I have seen so much of Tokyo with these lovely ladies, a great community. Last week we went to Yokohama! Really fun. If you want to ask me any questions, email me at gumshoegluzman@yahoo.com.

If you want official information (including our plans for next week), email tuesday_playgroup@hotmail.com, or contact Yuki Yatani 03-5701-5725, 090-1668-6719.

Playgroup for 3-6 year olds...

We just had our first playgroup meeting today (May 29/05) in Yoyogi Park. We went to the Yoyogi Pony Park and then to Yoyogi Park for a picnic. We had 12 families turn up with about 16 children ranging in age from 3 to 6.5 with a good balance of boys and girls. The outing was a great success and we will meet again in another 2-3 weeks. Re; Playgroup for 2-3 year olds

Hi,

We live in Jiyugaoka and we are looking for a playgroup or the like for our 2-year-old girl. She is very sociable and really enjoys playing with other little girls around her age- very good at sharing and taking turns. She enjoys all nationalities, but can only communicate in English. She loves music and the piano (which we would like for her to learn later on).

If anyone knows of or has any suggestions for a group that is near the Jiyugaoka area we would appreciate your help.

Regards,
Roxy

We are a Swiss-American couple with a very social 2 1/2 year old and a 13 month old (English- and German dialect-speaking). We have just arrived from Cairo, where we had a wonderful weekly play group and toddler music class. I would love to find something similar here, for the kids and for me, too! We are currently in Roppongi, will move to Shibuya in mid-July. Anyone know of anything in our area? If there is no group currently, I would be interested in setting one up... anyone interested? Please email me at melissawoods@hotmail.com, and mention "playgroup" in the subject line. Thanks!

By Melissa Woods Nelson on Monday, June 20, 2005 - 2:50 pm:

Two more questions: Anyone know of a casual play group in Roppongi (near Roppongi Hills) we could attend a few times before we move to Shibuya in mid-July? We have a 2 1/2 year old and an (almost) 14 month old.My son is missing his old friends and I'd love to meet some parents here. We are also interested in meeting individual parents with kids in the area for play dates (where is a good place to meet moms and kids here?).

Second question: Does anyone know of a Swiss German-language play group anywhere in Tokyo, or any Swiss German speakers age 2-4 looking for playmates?

I'd be grateful for any responses, please email me at melissawoods@hotmail.com and mention "playgroup" in the subject line so your message doesn't go out with the junk mail. Thanks!

Adventurous Dads for camping

I am looking for adventurous type to go together on camping/hiking adventures for bonding with our children. My only daughter is 3 years old. I communicate only in English; however I can understand her Japanese.
Usually our inner city excursions are from Friday evening and Saturdays and usually include boat rides and "kodomo-no-shiro" etc.
I always carry flash cards on our outings and am focused on giving the children the basics (colors, shapes, drawing, and singing). I am looking for others that are educationally focused and would like to improve learning efficiency by adding a peer for their children.

Please contact me at westsan@gmail.com

By Kiwi Mum on Sunday, November 13, 2005 - 9:17 pm:

I have recently moved to Tokyo and have enrolled my 3yr old son in a new international preschool called ACORN. ACORN is very new and only has a handful of students. My son absolutely loves it there and we hope that more students enrol soon. The premises are small but a happy vibrant place filled with natural light. It is conveniently located in Moto-Azabu and the children go to the park everyday (weather permitting). The ladies running the school are lovely and my son is enjoying lots of attention. He is learning lots and having heaps of fun doing art, singing and dancing.

ACORN is VERY reasonably priced so perfect for expats who have to pay their own fees. I hope that more expats support the school and enrol their kids as this is what Tokyo desperately needs.

I have no connection with the school other than having my son enrolled there.

For those looking for a preschool it is worth checking ACORN out http://www.acorn-school.com

My friend and I have just started a very active playgroup on Friday evenings from 5-6pm. This is aimed at children aged 3 and under. There is 30 minutes of action songs, dancing and very noisy activities as well as a small craftime and then 30 minutes of freeplay for the children while mums/parents relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea. This is non-profit, we charge 1000yen per parent and child and 500yen for additional children and this money goes towards room rental and children's craft equipment and games.
This is held at lunaluna kids room in Sangubashi on the Odakyu line. Please email me if you would like to join this group or if you would just like to come and try one session. Everyone is welcome.

There is more information about our group, TGI Fridays, on the lunaluna webpage here

My son (2 1/2) and I are visiting Tokyo (Shinjuku area) for the next two months (until mid-June, 2006). Looking for playmates for my son (and mom company for me, too) if anyone has "open" playgroups in the area, or somewhat nearby. We know the subway and JR system, so are willing to travel a bit.

Hello all!
My name is Nami, and I'm a writer from "Happy Mama" magazine. I do an article for this magazine where Japanese and non-Japanese kids and moms play and chat and just showcase the fun of crossing over language and culture. I'm so pleased to have met so many great people through this site in the past months, and I'm expanding my list of moms&kids who would like to be in the magazine.
If you live in the Kanto area and your kids are 3 to 5 years old, and your primary language at home is NOT Japanese, please send me an e-mail!
I'll get back to you with more details.
Hope to talk to you soon!
