Heating Home in Japan

Japan With Kids - Forums: General Discussions: Heating Home in Japan

By Rach on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 - 11:53 am:

One of our bedrooms cannot have an aircon installed in it, what alternatives can we use in this 4 mat tatami room considering we have a small kid(for safety reasons) and that a gas or oil heater cannot be used.

Is there a hot and cold blower available in Japan which we could use in summers and winters.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

When I lived in an apt with two babies, we used a portable air con/heater unit. It moved on wheels and was not hot to the touch. There is a accordian type hose that would fit in the round vent in the room which would blow hot air out of the room in the summer. It was cheaper than a wall unit. In the other room, we used a window-type aircon/heater. Can't remember the model/name but I'm sure they have various types in your local electrical appliance store. Hope this helps.
