Tokyo:
Friendship Chiyoda "Mochi Tsuki"
================================
Mochi-tsuki, or pounding rice to make mochi (rice cakes) is a traditional event. A special type of sticky rice soaked in water overnight and steamed is placed in an usu, (a large wooded mortar) and gkinneh(a large heavy, hammer-like wooden pestle) is used to pound the rice in a steady rhythm by one or more people as another turns the paste until smooth.

Mochi-tsuki is a party-like social function with work and play combined and everyone will taste the product of their labors with various flavorings!

With professional guidance you can also try making Japanese sweets with "mochi". And for children, a lot of fun in a Japanese traditional way!

We are also expecting Hosei University's Sumo-bu to join us and even "sumo" with the children.

Tokyo: March event "Tea Ceremony"

Tea Ceremony (Chado or Sado) is a ritualized preparation and serving of powdered green tea "Matcha" in the presence of guests. It is based upon the simple act of boiling water, making tea and offering it to the others. Served with a respectful heart and received with gratitude, a bowl of tea satisfies everyone both physically and spiritually.

How about trying the ritualistic movements of bamboo whisk "Chasen" in stirring and mixing the tea and also the way to rotate and admire the tea bowl "Chawan" to feel the spiritual culture of the Japanese, the Japanese Way of Tea.
