Magicians, Clowns, Musicians for Hire

Japan With Kids - Forums: General Discussions: Entertainment - Kids Parties: Magicians, Clowns, Musicians for Hire
By Lea on Saturday, April 8, 2000 - 5:58 am:

I would like to hire a magician for an hour. Can anyone recommend a good one? Also, do you have any idea of the fees they may charge per hour

Does anyone have a copy of "Things to Do With Kids in Tokyo" ( or some name close to that ). If so, does it list entertainers that can be hired for parties etc?

I would really appreciate knowing names of magicians if they are listed ( with telephone numbers ). If you have this information please share it with me ! It will save me a loooong and booooring train ride into Tokyo to peek inside Kinokuniya's copy.
thank you, Lea

I am hosting a b'day party in Tokyo for five Japanese tots ages 1 to 9 and would like to arrange some kind of entertainment (magician, ballon sculpting, puppet show, etc.) Most of the contacts listed in "Japan for Kids" are out of date. Any ideas?

According to Japan for Kids:
David Letendre has been entertaining kids and families in Tokyo for twenty years. His show includes comedy, magic, and balloon sculpturing. The entertainment is especially designed for kids and families....
03-3489-5330

The next listing is for Terry O'Brien
Terry's magic act is very professional, and he performs in major clubs and hotels throughout Japan. If his hectic schedule allows, he also performs for private parties, and he is especially good with children.

Did anyone attend the July 4th celebration at the American Embassy compound on June 29th?

If so...who was that fabulous entertainer? He sort of looked a bit like the comedian Steve Martin and wore a purple cut-off suit.

If you know his name and contact information I would very much appreciate your time if you could send it to me at chocolatepark@email.com

Thank you in advance
Lea

from Admin: July 4th celebration entertainer:
Here's his contact number and website info. He goes under "zat amazing guy".
David Claypatch, "Zat Amazing Guy." 045-253-1252
http://apple_juggling.tripod.co.jp/
He speaks English, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, he's won several busking awards, etc. Someone mentioned Y150,000 per engagement, but better ask him directly. He might have different prices for different types of gigs.

Got this indirectly from Tokyo American Club:
A Christian mission has some of their members doing party entertainment to raise money for their various projects.
Y35,000 for two clowns for a two hour party (performance time is about 90 minutes), other lengths/options available, cater to the 4-7 age group.
"Let's Party" - Sammy the Clown 03-5968-3540 Keitai email: sam-matsuoka@ezweb.ne.jp Mobile phone: 090-9203-3287

Got this from Sammy:
Lulu the Clown tel: 0422-34-4405

Also got this and contacted by email. Very nice answer. (Two women I think). "Usually our "Big Ears" is good for the kid's party and it's cost is 40000yen. But we also be able to provide solo clown, then it's cost will be 20000yen. Please think about transportation cost if you live outside of Tokyo."

Met Steve at the Baseball Cafe. His resume includes working at Tokyo Disney land. He was very good, so probably not inexpensive.

Re Sammy the Clown - I saw Sammy and his assistant doing their stuff at a party at the weekend and can highly recommend them - they kept a party of about 30 5-year-olds happy for about two hours with games, balloons, tricks etc.

This is a really great entertainor and genuinely loves the kids: Guy Totaro supagaijin[at]mac.com
hard to schedule because in high demand and a bit pricier than others
Here's what the web has on him:

GipsyFamilyCircus.com promotes Guy Totaro, a professional variety entertainer, actor & character model. A well seasoned performer, Guy is a proud Ringling Clown College grad, holds a BA in Theatre from SFSU, is & versed in the Italian Commedia dell Arte. Guy has had the good fortune to have performed "Uncle Guido's Gipsy Family Circus" comedy variety show around the globe to countless audiences. Among the many trix in his magical line up is a unique Organ Grinder routine performed on a CASTLEWOOD 20 note busker organ that took him over 300 hours to build! Truly fun for all ages!

Hello,
Has anyone seen this Mexican illusionist, "Riken" perform? Apparently he can work in both English and Japanese? But the Japanese part of the website is not up yet.

Try Deejay or I think his real name is David John. Here is the website : http://www.TheMagicOfDeejay.com

He is fully bilingual and very good with kids.

We hired him to do a magic show at my 5 years old son's birthday party with his 20 friends and it was the first time for me to see my young son laughed so hard.

His show is full of interaction to keep the kids entertained.
