Comments: We went to Sesame Place in November '98, because we had free entrance passes. My daughter had just turned two. We got off to a late start out of Shinjuku station, so we had to change trains (there are a few that go all the way earlier in the morning.) About 1.5 hours later we reached the destination train station, looked for the bus but finally just took a cab.
If Sesame Place were closer then we might go again, but even with free passes and splitting the cab between two families, I spent about 5000 yen for myself and my daughter. She was too young to be allowed into some of the activities, and she would have enjoyed a playground closer to home just as much. I think if you live in that area, and your kids are really nuts about Sesame Street, then it would be interesting. It was not as nice as I had expected. There were no Sesame Street characters walking around, at least not on the Sunday that I was there. There were some very elaborate climbing structures with rope nets and cat walks, etc., a ball pen, 4 or 5 other included attractions, the toy train was a couple hundred yen extra per ride (& this was the best one for a 2 year old), a very long escalator from the valley parking lots up the side of the hill to the theme park itself, a picnic area, food concessions and an indoor area with things for sale and more games to play. There was a separate room for mothers with young kids still in diapers with sinks, diaper changing area, but no toilet for Mom... I was there for only 3 hours, but it was plenty of time for us to do and see everything that she could enjoy at her age.
There is also a way to get over to the sister theme park called Tokyo Summerland, and some people buy dual tickets for both parks on the same day. I didn't do this so I can't tell the details. |

Comments: It was 7 AM and we are on the tour bus. Took us 2 hours to get to Summerland. When I went to Summerland the first time, I thought they'd only have one pool. But there were many. My best friend showed me how that indor pool has waves. They were fun. I also saw the outdoor pools. I mostly stayed on the Conifer Creek.
After swimming, my best friend, her dad, and me went to the Freefall. I was nervous when I sat on the Freefall seats. Someone behind us was screaming when our chairs were going up. When we were going down really fast, I tried to put my feet on the ground but I can't!
We only rode Freefall one time because after we rode it, it started to rain. My friend and I went inside to buy food. We were browsing the indoors, and we found a cave filled with spas and this water that had blue bubbles inside it. Too late, we already changed clothes.
It was so fun there I wish I could go there everyday. |

Comments: My boyfriend and I visited Tokyo summerland July 15, 2003. We had such a blast! We stayed at Yokota AB and our drive from the base to the park was about 50 minutes. We didn't think that we were able to use the waterpark and the amusement park at the same price, so we didn't bring our swim suits-BUMMER!! But we did ride all the roller coasters and every scary ride possible. I've been to six flags and have the chance to enjoy these experiences, while my boyfriend never had until this year. It was more enjoyable for me knowing that he was having so much fun! It was even better because we were there together. I have been to Japan many times but was never able to go to an amusement park until now. For any one who are planning on taking a trip to Japan, Tokyo Summerland is the place to be!! |
