Has anyone shipped their car over from the states when moving to Tokyo? Any advice pro or con?

Thanks!

Heather

You would have to have a very very compelling reason to do this. The paperwork and procedures would be complicated and costly. There are also stringent emission regs. If you're a car nut and have to have your 1936 Bentley, you can hire someone to take care of it.

I can't think of any reason to bring a normal car. Used cars in Japan are a good deal, usually.

FWIW

Heather, if you are going to ship a car from the US, you must remember that in Japan the steering wheel is on the right side of the car. I personally would find it hard to drive a let side drive car in Japan (although people do) As Scott said, there are used cars available and you can get a good deal on a new one if you look hard. Good luck.
