Customs: Paying Duty on stuff sent from overseas

Japan With Kids - Forums: Consumer Reports: Customs: Paying Duty on stuff sent from overseas
By Pamela Paterson on Tuesday, December 14, 1999 - 9:11 am:

So, I just made a huge order via the internet from Land's End, and I will have to pay mucho duty on this when they deliver the packages...Is there anyway I can estimate the Duty charges so I can be sure to have the correct amount of Cash in hand when they deliver it???

Does anyone have experience with importing contact lenses? In particular, I would like to find out how much, if any, duty is payable on these imports, which might cancel out any potential savings.

I just imported 8 boxes of lenses from
discountcontactlenses.com. They were
about US$20 per box. I paid no duties at
this end. The customs declaration from
the US was clearly marked RX Contact
Lenses.

We've been importing contact lenses for ourselves for several years, and our experience has been the same as Mike's.
