A neat toy for "1-5 years old": Suisui Oekaki
which more or less means "water painting"
It's a piece of specially treated material about a meter square that you can write on with sponge pens. As a spot gets wet it turns blue (or pink or green, depending on which set you buy). When it drys it becomes white again!
It's made by Pilot (the pen company) and you can buy it at Toys R Us. Price was about Y3000
Good for 6 year olds too.

I bought Thinkfun's Rush Hour about 2 years ago (a highly recommended game, BTW), and sadly I lost 1 puzzle card and 1 plastic car.
I e-mailed Thinkfun's contact person in Japan, Mr. Kobayashi, and asked him if I could purchase the missing pieces. He mailed me back 2 hours later (although it's a Sunday!) promising to send me the missing items if I mail him an 80 yen response stamp. As a comparison, they charge $2.50 for the plastic car in the US, without tax and postage.
Great customer service that's worth a recommendation.

Those who watch Nickelodeon may already know, but for those who don't, the Sponge Bob toys are coming to KFC! The first series will start this Thursday, June 22nd.
I don't know when the next SB toy series will start. All "Smile Sets" are 410yens.
