Our Favorite Food is Indian/Nepalese
My daughter and I have been exploring the Indian and Nepalese Restaurants in Tokyo for several years now. It's true that she almost always eats butter chicken with her nan, but eventually I hope she will branch out a bit.

What follows is a list of some of the restaurants we have eaten at. The comments that follow are strictly those of myself, my daughter, and a few other friends/contributors. It all started when I discovered that the staff at Indian restaurants is almost universally super tolerant of children, even explosive toddlers, active, energetic and non-stationary pre-schoolers, and so on. Please feel free to send in your favorite Indian/Pakistani/Nepalese restaurants to be added to this list!

From Elke (January 2004): "From Elke (June 2005): My favourite is the Raj Palace in Shibuya. This place really offers big value for money, the Indian food is one of the best in town. The staff is extremely friendly and tolerant with children and the ambiance is nice. Last but not least: They have an excellent all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (11.30 to 15.00 hrs, no time limit) with vegetable, spicy dal, chicken or mutton curry, tender Tandoori chicken, pakora, fresh and warm tasty naan, two kinds of rice, salad and dessert for 1,100 Yen (tax included, drinks (lassi, soft drinks, etc.) are only 100 Yen during lunch time)."

Bengal Cafe

Closest to Zoshigaya station on the Arakawa streetcar line but can be walked from Ikebukuro station (10 minutes). Located on Azuma-dori.
Best daal! (in my humble opinion) Too small for their own tandoori so serve store bought nan.

This one is closest to Ikebukuro station (Seibu side) and has an all-you-can eat lunch. Not bad but not great. Big so always has seats and can accommodate large parties.

Hole in the wall counter eating open until midnight. Good but according to my daughter not great, because they don't have freshly made nan. Lunch is filling at about Y600 with plenty of rice.

Itabashikuyakushomae (Mita line)

11:00-14:30 and 17:30-23:00 03-6781-3300, this one has lunch specials for Y750 and is within walking distance of 3 train stations (JR Itabashi & Tobu Toyo line Shimo-Itabashi as well as Mita line). A Skylark restaurant is about 20 meters away (as a landmark). If you are driving it is right off Nakasendo Ave. coming from Sugamo (the usual parking problems).

Next to the Outback Steak House. Has a good dinner set for Y1200 plus Y200 for a big Nan which includes a bowl of mutton curry and a bowl of daal. Colton Plaza has a free shuttle bus from the end station "Motoyamata" on the Shinjuku subway line.
