Rentals: Movies and Music
By Julie Hansberry on Friday, April 22, 2005 - 8:25 pm: Wondering how DVD rentals in English are priced and how the selection is? Our company will forward our mail and we subscribe to an online rental service now. We have a multi-system player already, also. I'm wondering if I should continue my rental service?
By Scott Hancock on Friday, April 22, 2005 - 9:23 pm: "Multi-system" is not the same as "multi-region", so not sure which you mean. You need multi-region to play DVD rented/sold in Japan. Almost all DVD of movies from the U.S. would have their original English sound available if rented here. So, if you have a multi-region player, you're all set and "could" discontinue your rental service. Maybe you should try renting locally and see how it works for you for a couple of months. It really depends on your personal preference.
By Julie Hansberry on Saturday, April 23, 2005 - 3:10 am: Sorry...used to be in Thailand and we called it "multi-system"...meaning the same as "multi-region". Can you also get DVD titles that are documenteries, etc.?...or just the usual movies? Thanks for the info!
By Scott Hancock on Friday, July 8, 2005 - 12:50 pm: The shops of the chain Tsutaya are huge and seem to have thousands of titles. I'm sure there are some documentaries in there, but the challenge is that the shelves are labeled in Japanese, as are most of the video packaging. So, it takes some effort to get past all that, if you don't read Japanese.

They hold a list in English of all the titles they have in stock and if you write down the name for them they can give it a look and hopefully find it.
