Now that digital cameras are the rage, what to do when we want to send a copy to someone who hasn't got email?

If you can copy your picture onto a floppy (hopefully the file is not too big -- if so try turning it into a .jpg file which gets compressed automatically), then many of the photo shops here in Tokyo can print of the floppy. They can almost always read Macintosh floppies as well as PC (Windows) floppies.

I get Post Card size prints for 50 yen at:

They also accept MO floppies. Here is a picture of what their logo looks like in Japanese Kanji:



Not all of their shops have the computers in house so then you have to wait two days. But the one I go to at Myogadani station on the Marunouchi line (tel: 03-3945-5745) does them for me within 2 hours. They can also digitalize your regular negative processing onto a CD.

I found one of those machines for getting pictures printed instantly. Pretty cool. This one was at Sakura camera on the East side of Shinjuku station (close to Marui department store). I met a friend for lunch who was on her way to the airport so there wasn't time to wait an hour or two for prints. The quality was probably a bit lower mostly because the color balance was off, but to be able to get the prints in just a couple of minutes made it OK. Price was also slightly higher.

Here's a good one for within Japan. I used them and it was very fast. The web site is in Japanese only. I had to get some help. You pay after you get the photos, at your local convenience store. It all very fast (once I got my order in)!
