List of Ice Skating Rinks

The below list is not by no means complete! Please contact us with other locations to us so they can be included! When the list gets longer, try a search for your area by typing in your ward or city name!

All ice skating rinks have attendant figure skating clubs in one way or the other. Hockey clubs include:

New members are welcome, from kindergarten to junior high, boys and girls. Young members, we'll teach you from the beginning. Junior high must already skate.
Times and place of practice: Four times monthly. October thru May at Edogawa-ku Sportsland. June thru September at other skate rinks in Tokyo. Please check the schedule on the website.
Entrance fee: Y3000, Monthly fee: Y7000 You can attend three trial practices before deciding to join. Equipment will be provided but if you have your own skates, please feel free to use them.

Indoor rink open 12:00-19:45 on weekdays (includes Saturdays) and 10:00-19:45 on holidays
Adults: 1300 yen; after 5 pm 1000 yen
Children through 9th grade: 800 yen; after 5 pm 600 yen
Skate rental: 500 yen
Observer ticket (7th grade and up): 400 yen (6th grade and under can observe for free)
Locker: 100 yen

Kogaigakushu -- like a school field trip, minimum # of children 20 or more, includes ice skate rental, only available from Tuesday through Saturday (between 8:30 and 11:45 the rink is reserved but after 12:00 the rink must be shared with others)

note: I have only been there once. They did not renew the ice for more than two hours, and I have to say it was pretty choppy the last hour. So Edogawa gets my vote for best combo of good ice and good price. Also there may be mistakes in the above translation, sorry. [Cornelia - 15 Oct 2002]

TOEI Shinjuku subway line, Shinozaki station, then bus. The complex is located right next to the Edogawa river. Take one of three buses from the station. One goes straight to "Sportsland" and the other two drop you within walking distance.

Indoor rink open from October to June. (Then it is transformed into a swimming pool). Schedule changes, call for hours.
Adults Y500, kids Y200, kids under 6 free
Skate rental: Y300 for adults and Y200 for children. Monthly and season passes for 2500 and 4300 yen for adults, 1000 and 2200 yen for kids. This rink definitely has a hockey club and there are all sorts of time slots in the monthly schedules marked off for lessons, speed skating, hockey games and other events.

Indoor rink 60 x 30 meters open from 3 January to 8 February (2004). Weekdays 12:00 to 20:00 and weekends 10:00 to 18:00. Call ahead to check for special hours due to events. The entrance is the same used for swimming in that season.
Adults Y1000, students Y550 Every Monday skate rental costs nothing. If you come four times you can get a free ticket for a fifth visit.
Skate rental: Y350, Lockers: Y100 (returned upon departure)
Chaperones (not skating): free, tell them you are "tsukisoi"
Lessons are available on weekends from 8:00-9:30am on a first come/ first serve basis for a fee.
Last season there were synchronized skating demonstrations a couple of days. Call for more info.
Also last year the whole thing was broken down for a couple of days for a competition wrestling event SO CALL IN ADVANCE to make sure it is open.

Meiji Jingu Skate Rink

A 5 minute walk from the JR Chuo/Sobu line Sendagaya station (also, an 8 minute walk from Shinanomachi station one stop before) or a 1 minute walk from the TOEI Oedo subway line Kokoritsu Kyogijyo station (yes, very confusing, this is not the station for the rink at Harajuku).

Indoor rink open Monday - Friday from 12:00 to 18:00 and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10:00 to 18:00.
This rink features a sign in English over the ticket vending machines.
Adults and high school students: Y1300, junior high and elementary school students Y900. Discount after 15:00: Y1000 for adult ticket and Y700 for kid ticket. Or get a coupon book (kaisuken) adults: 12 tickets for the price of 10, kids: 13 tickets for the price of 10. No entry after 17:00.
Observer ticket: (first grade and older) Y300
Skate rental: Y500
Annual locker fee: small Y10,000; medium Y15,000; large Y20,000
Ice surface is closed at 17:30 (30 minutes before closing time). There is also a membership system where annual membership for Y5000 allows you to pay the "after 15:00" price before 15:00. Lessons available for a fee.

On 31 December: New Year's Eve special evening skate session from 20:00 to 2:00 am on 1 January.
No holidays except schedule may change during bad weather (too warm or rain). Please call.
Adults Y1000 for Amusement park entrance (includes skating). On 17 18 and 19 February the amusement park is closed but during these days, you can enjoy ice skating for just Y200.
Skate rental: Y800 except special skating day 25 December when elementary students and younger can enjoy skate rental for half price (Y400)

Yokohama

Indoor rink (54 x 27 meters) open all year from 10:00-18:30. Closed Thursdays except when Thursday is a holiday (for example during 12/25-1/7 and 3/26-4/15).

Skate rental: Y400 (sizes 16cm to 31cm, figure; types available - hockey, half-speed, double edged 16-18cm only)

Chiba
